PARENTS AND THE SCHOOL

A healthy relationship between the school and home is of great importance for every child in our care. We actively encourage parents to come and observe the children working with the teachers and also to contribute to a special lesson themselves, if they so wish, by prior arrangement with the Manager. In the past, parents have demonstrated different musical instruments, taught cooking skills and given the children a valuable insight into different professions.

We are also keen for a home/nursery partnership through our mini library where parents can borrow books from or from our small activity sacks that the children can take home to complete with the parents.

Parents may make an appointment to see the Manager at any time during a term.

Regular Events

Regular parent's meetings are organised to show the children's work, demonstrate Montessori materials and for an open forum to discuss issues of special interest. The school also organises end of term events for children and parents to meet socially.

Progress Record

A detailed record is kept of each child's progress through the Tapestry App, a secure online learning journal, which the parents will have access to. Using photos, videos and diary entries, the communication between the teachers and parents helps build a shared understanding of how your child can reach their full potential and hit their milestones. This record is always available to parents and a full report is downloaded and provided when the child leaves the care of the school. Every parent is invited by the Manager for a private review twice a year to discuss their child's progress, and to ask any questions they may have.

A Special Message

As an advocate for positive change, I strongly believe children learn in a safe and comfortable environment, boosting their self-confidence. A high self-esteem will enable them strive for and accomplish any goals they set themselves with the Montessori learning.

I have spent a considerable time observing classrooms, developing young leaders by early impact intervention, providing counselling, stimulating peer engagement as the Head of Department for the Children and Pre-teen Ministry at my local church, and reviewing and auditing safeguarding policies and implementation for the pre-school facilities as a co-opted Trustee for YMCA Children and Young People Reigate and Banstead.

With a background in Earth Sciences and more recently in planetary science, my passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) compels me to want to nurture children for a natural development for the environment and the world we live in. My vision is for the children at EGMOS to review their surroundings and to make them wonder; make them question; make them think critically; make them write and make them read. I want to imbibe other things such as character, morals and tolerance of culture which may prove to be more valuable than knowledge itself.

A key driver is to also see teachers grow and thrive, pushing boundaries and overcoming challenges. I believe that teachers and parents individually and collectively have the ability to not only change the world, but to improve it.

I look forward to having your little loved ones in our school and shaping the EGMOS family to greater heights for the future.

Best Wishes,

Lola
